In his 7th year at the helm for Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson has become the multifaceted threat QB ever according to many viewers’ eyes. When no one believed him pre-draft, he has stood up and showed out in the biggest ways after showing that running back speed and the accuracy of a very top-notch QB. An elusive athlete on the field, this is someone who has taken the league by storm with 15,887 career passing yards and 125 touchdowns.
Being so great, Lamar was able to pick up his 2nd MVP last year after tossing 3,800+ passing yards and running for over 800. Although this has been all great news, the one knock on him is the playoff success and him only winning 2 playoff games in 6 years. But, with him motivated as ever to torch the league on fire and be the top competitor to defeat either Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow, it could lead to another special season of already so many.
Lamar Jackson 2023 Stats
One of the most historic years by a quarterback recently, Jackson was extremely close to winning a Super Bowl until Patrick Mahomes came once again. In a year where he had over 4,700 all-purpose yards and 30+ touchdowns, he led them to a league best 13-4 record. Keeping this in mind, he helped this side beat 2 of the 3 Conference Championship sides including San Francisco and Detroit by a resounding 20+ points.
Having finished 4th in the fantasy points ranking, Lamar finished with 338.2 points during the season and 5 over a score of 28+. As this was an important stat, it impacted Jackson to finish with an average of 21.1 points which was ranked 3rd. Although he couldn’t climb the ladder of Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen’s level, Lamar really was way better in fantasy production over other stars like Dak Prescott or Brock Purdy.
Lamar Jackson Fantasy Outlook 2024
As Lamar has entered this season not for his individual awards but a team one, he is more than hungry to get over the hump of the Baltimore Ravens 10 year Super Bowl drought. With an offense that comes back in the same exact order and Lamar dropping a lot of weight, his running style will get even better to potentially seal this deal. He has gone on constant interviews to talked about the feeling to be a 3-time MVP as well, and when he is on his game this could be a #1 QB in NFL play.
Now that the offensive line has added Roger Rosengarten to replace the aging Morgan Moses, it will be a massive upgrade in the run-blocking schemes for Lamar to go. Losing John Simpson was one of the best things for them because it enabled the signing of running back Derrick Henry who can actually provide the run-blocking that they missed their last season for Jackson. In a run-heavy scheme he will be able to throw Henry’s way for big gains and even have a decoy that could disguise the run one way when the quarterback is going the other.
Adding an explosive Devontez Walker at receiver was a huge upgrade over the out of his prime Odell Beckham Jr. to create quick slants down the middle or deep one on one shots. With these huge additions, Lamar should really be primed to out-do last season’s expectations and finally take the Ravens to the promised land. With a projected 335.2 points, he currently is 3rd on the draft board amongst QB’s and could make a massive push for 2nd barring any injuries.
Our Final Say
This is the make or break year for Lamar Jackson to prove that he can be the best quarterback around the league. Some massive playoff victories will push his 4th place ranking of single-callers to a top 2 spot with Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, or Josh Allen. As this offense keeps getting better at wide receiver, Zay Flowers could continue being the top pass catcher and eclipse Lamar’s first ever 1,000 yard receiver since Hollywood Brown.
During training camp they have found that deeper connection with each other and the go-to hook routes is something Flowers is dominating. In the grind to get back where he made the mistake again, Mark Andrews is going to be one of Lamar’s other favorite targets all over the field. Their connection will just not take place in the red-zone, but on PA Rollouts or slant routes across the middle. With Nelson Agholor continuing to revive his career as well, his jump-ball presence could give the Ravens a perfect option number three alongside Rashod Bateman.
The already mentioned Derrick Henry will be backed up by two amazing receiving backs in Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill. With a defense that is led by Patrick Queen, expect a lot of quick scores for Baltimore on short fields as that is where Lamar really finds success too. All in all, with this being a redemption year for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, the quarterback should be taken in round 1 to 2 this year with a ceiling to finish as the highest scorer.
