Entering his eighth season, Chris Godwin has always been one of the most consistent route-runners around. His catch passing role was vital last season as he helped quarterback Baker Mayfield run the offense perfectly enroute to another playoff appearance for Tampa Bay. In 7 years, he has grabbed 529 passes for 6,690 yards and even scored 34 touchdowns. Chris Godwin has been a great value for fantasy teams over the years and the big question is will he continue to be that effective in the 2024 NFL season.
When many doubted him following Tom Brady’s retirement, Godwin really put the league on notice by hauling in 83 receptions and 1,024 yards last season. Looking to finally solidify his name as one of the top 15 receivers in the league, Chris Godwin will hope to continue showcasing his quick breaks of routes in a contract year. In order to continue the Tampa Bay Buccaneers success, he will be a focal point of the offense once again with Baker Mayfield heading into year two of the system.

Playing with Tom Brady for three years, everyone thought this Buccaneers offense would take massive steps down after he left. But, Chris Godwin managed to play a full 17 games for the first time in his career and erased a lot of big-play deficiencies. His 12.1 yards per catch ranked in the top half of the league ahead of stars like Keenan Allen and Davante Adams. With left tackle Tristan Wirfs out for the season, Godwin did this without much time to stretch the field.
In addition, he ranked 23rd in receiving yards and was also used as a jet-sweep threat. Although he was snubbed from another Pro Bowl, Godwin did contribute in the postseason with 8 catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Last season, he ranked 67th among all players in PPR leagues, finishing with 209.2 total PPR points. Averaging about 12.3 points per game, his fantasy ranking amongst receivers was 31st, ahead of players like Rashid Shaheed, Garrett Wilson, and Brandin Cooks.

After a strong 2023 season that silenced doubters, Chris Godwin’s confidence is soaring entering 2024. With solid quarterback play, Godwin has a good chance to extend his streak of 1,000-yard seasons. He could also see an increase in touchdowns, potentially finishing with a stat line of 80 catches, 1,100 yards, and 4-5 touchdowns.
The Buccaneers addressed a major weakness by bolstering their offensive line. Retaining Tristan Wirfs and drafting Graham Barton, a standout from Duke who allowed only 3 sacks in 3 seasons, should significantly improve protection and open up more opportunities for the entire offense. In a pass-heavy scheme complemented by a strong defense, Godwin can expect a healthy target share, averaging 9-10 targets per game.
Chris Godwin is currently ranked 83rd overall in fantasy drafts, translating to a 6th or 7th round selection in 12-team PPR leagues. With a projected total of 132 fantasy points, a breakout performance exceeding 30 points could significantly elevate his ranking and solidify him as a top fantasy option.
Will Godwin Put Together His 4th Straight 1,000+ Yard Season?
After a great comeback from a MCL and ACL injury he suffered last offseason, Godwin should be ready to be in full form once again. As top wide receiver Mike Evans is always double teamed, Baker Mayfield has found a new security blanket. With over 2.5 seconds to release the ball, Godwin will be able to run post routes and crossing patterns that could disguise Evans as well.
As the Buccaneers have a less talented backfield, Raachad White will mostly be coming out as a threat from behind or being a 6th blocker. With offensive coordinator Dave Canales leaving, a lot more of the deep drop passing will open up and is very favorable for Godwin to get 20+ yard receptions.
A collection of a strong defense that will give the offense a chance in every game, there should be a huge expectation for over 50+ plays to run a game. Chris Godwin is really someone to take in the middle rounds as taking him earlier could be a massive boom/bust pickup for any fantasy team.
