The highly anticipated Devara: Part 1 has finally hit theaters, and fans are buzzing about Jr NTR’s electrifying performance. This action-packed drama, directed by Koratala Siva, delivers on its promises with stunning visuals and thrilling sequences. However, beneath the surface, the familiar plotline might leave you wanting more. Let’s dive into the review and see if Devara: Part 1 lives up to the hype.
The Story So Far…
The plot is set in the coastal village of Ratnagiri and follows Devara (JR NTR) and Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) who are influential figures dealing with the smuggling of goods. When Devara’s conscience awakens, he abandons this life. As a result, Bhaira plans to kill him.
Devara’s disappearance sees the story fast forward by twelve years with Bhaira still dominating the village. Vara (Devara’s son), after growing up in this environment, surprisingly allies with Bhaira. These events shape an intriguing narrative about loyalty, revenge and family secrets.
Devara Movie Review
Positives
The first part of the film is outstanding with lots of action and drama. The film does wonders in the technical aspects. Ratnavelu’s excellent cinematography and Anirudh Ravichander’s pulse-quickening music are particularly notable as they elevate the experience. Another major highlight of the film is the action choreography. Apart from being large-scale and thrilling, the fight sequences are also well-executed. The dialogues have a certain depth that provides a strong emotional presence to Devara’s character.
Negatives
Even though Devara progresses with intense energy, it falters in storytelling. The plot is a bit predictable and the second half of the film kind of drags. Some of the scenes seem underwhelming and could have been tightened. Bhaira’s character loses the unique charm in the later part of the film. Additionally, the abrupt climax leaves viewers in shock and that too, not necessarily in a good way.

A Passable Action Drama with a Good 1st Half but a 2nd half that was dragged in parts till the pre-climax. Koratala showed a lot of promise in his writing in the 1st half and setup the story well. However, the 2nd half should’ve been racier and became too predictable after a point. NTR gave a terrific performance and has carried this one on his shoulders. Anirudh is the lifeline of the movie and has done very well in terms of music.
Variety’s Courtney Howard also had lots of positive things to say:
Devara is an explosive, exhilarating & flat-out terrific adrenaline rush. It Goes Hard, bringing together giant-scale ferocity, pulse-quickening stakes & brawling action. Dance & fight choreography are propulsive. N.T. Rama Rao Jr. brings the fire & charisma. FUN STUFF!
At Theatres another popular movie reviewer was disappointed with the movie’s storytelling and gave the lowest of ratings amongst all the other reviewers. None of us exactly know the views with which he gave his devara movie review. Few key points mentioned by him were the conflict between the lead and antagonist is weak and the twists in the movie are quite predictable.
SpiceBite’s Review on Devara Movie
One of our expert and die hard movie buff watched the movie in theatres and his view was the first half is a banger and sets up the whole movie for the second half. But the second half was a bit laggy and doesn’t give the vibe that the first half of the movie promises. Jr Ntr’s acting was the standout as always and mainly the action sequences in the first half are the highlights. A predictable twist in the closing moments of the movie doesn’t add up to the hype.
Our final ratings – We give a good 3/5 for Devara part 1 movie.
We recommend you guys to watch this action banger of a movie in theatres!
