Widely renowned for his role as Oliver Queen in Arrow, Stephen Amell has recently shared his experience while auditioning for NCIS: Origins. In the series, Amell was being considered to play the role of young Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The character was famously played by Mark Harmon in the original NCIS series. However, even after giving an “extraordinarily good” audition, the part was assigned to actor Austin Stowell.
Consequently, Amell vented out his frustrations on the ‘Inside of You’ podcast and expressed his disappointment after being “c-blocked” from the role.
What Exactly Happened?
While prepping up to play LA lawyer Ted Black in Suits: LA, Stephen Amell recollected his memories of auditioning for NCIS: Origins the same week when he did for the Suits role. Even though his audition went well and he also received positive feedback from the NCIS producers, he could not get a follow up. While talking about the missed opportunity, Amell admitted, “I felt like someone, somewhere along the line, had, like, c-blocked me.”
The actor Austin Stowell, who was ultimately casted as young Gibbs has played major roles in Catch-22 and The Hating Game. In addition to his NCIS hopes being crushed, Amell had to manage some personal crises as well. He disclosed about an incident where a difficult phone call related to a personal issue resulted in his emotional breakdown in the car. More problems at home further elevated the stress.
Stephen Amell’s Future Approach
Making his way through these struggles, Stephen Amell approached his Suits: LA audition with an aim to deliver a lighter and more spontaneous performance. “I just figured everyone was going to be stone-cold serious, so let’s just have a little bit of fun,” he stated. This distinct style of his paid off as he got selected for the role.
Thinking about the past, Amell is now grateful for how things have turned out. He shared, “Retrospectively, I got the job that I was supposed to get, and everything does work out for a reason.” Despite an unsettling miss out on NCIS, his new endeavour with Suits: LA seems to be the right choice.
