The wrestling world is abuzz with the WWE signing of renowned professional Ana Stephanie Vaquer González (professionally known as Stephanie Vaquer). She was born in Chile on March 29, 1993 and has shaped her career with finesse. This signing marks a notable milestone in her career as she comes with exceptional talent and experience on one of the world’s biggest stages for wrestling.
Early Career
Vaquer began her career in Chile while training under Paul Slandering. She made her ring debut in February 2009. She quickly built up her reputation with the ring name Dark Angel and became popular among the locals. She had her first major match outside Chile in 2013 where she faced Heroína in Arena Coliseo Coacalco, Mexico on December 22. She further polished her skills by receiving guidance from wrestlers like Ricky Marvin, Último Guerrero, Gran Apache and Villano IV.
Stephanie Vaquer Career Breakthrough (Japan and CMLL)
Through World Wonder Ring Stardom, a premier women’s wrestling promotion, Vaquer made her Japanese debut in 2018. Over three weeks, she took part in five matches (inclusive of a title match). In the very same year, she also tried out for WWE in Chile.
Her career underwent a major leap with the participation in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in August, 2019. Here, she was initially a seasonal guest but soon became a full-time performer. She also became the first female South American wrestler in the history of the promotion.
Her collaboration with Zeuxis resulted in a victory in the inaugural Occidente Women’s Tag Team Championship in February 2023 as well as the CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Championship in September 2023. Additionally, she also claimed the CMLL World Women’s Championship on September 29, 2023. Hence, she is now the first wrestler to hold both titles simultaneously.
Further Successes
In 2023, Vaquer competed in the Resurgence tournament of New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) for CMLL and won the inaugural Strong Women’s Championship. In spite of a semi-final defeat by Mercedes Moné, her performance earned praise. She was successful in defending her championship by defeating AZM and Alex Windsor. However, her reign ended on June 30, 2024 at Forbidden Door, following a defeat by Mercedes Moné.
This year, Vaquer has elevated her versatility. She has competed in Revolution Pro Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Her debut victory over Kanji along with a title defense against Rhio were the highlights of the event.
