Match Preview
Afghanistan take confidence into the upcoming clash after a strong showing in the opening game of the series, where they secured a convincing 38-run victory. Batting first, they posted a competitive total of 181 runs, built around a dominant partnership between Ibrahim Zadran and Darwish Rasooli. Both batters were in complete control, scoring 87 and 84 respectively, and laid a solid platform for their side.
West Indies struggled in the chase as they lost both openers inside the powerplay, putting immediate pressure on the middle order. Although there were brief signs of resistance from Sampson, Matthew Forde, and Gudakesh Motie down the order, the required rate continued to climb. Afghanistan’s spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Noor Ahmad kept things tight through the middle overs and ensured the game never slipped away.
With the second match yet to be played and the third game approaching, Afghanistan will look to carry forward the momentum from the series opener. Ibrahim Zadran, following his fluent 87 in the first match, remains a strong captaincy option, while Rashid Khan’s impact with the ball makes him a reliable vice-captaincy choice.
