India began the T20I series with a dominant performance, posting their highest-ever total against New Zealand after batting first. They piled up 238 runs on the board, led by a aggressive knock from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 84 runs off just 35 balls. Down the order, Rinku Singh added further impetus to the innings, smashing 44 runs from 20 deliveries to put the New Zealand bowlers under constant pressure.
In defence of the massive total, India were in control for most of the chase. Devon Conway was dismissed on just the second ball of the innings, setting the tone early.
