Match Preview
Sri Lanka began the series on a positive note with a 19-run victory. After opting to bat first, they posted a total of 271 runs, with Kusal Mendis anchoring the innings with a fluent 93 at number three, while Janith Liyanage added valuable runs down the order with a 46. For England, Adil Rashid was the standout bowler, picking up three wickets.
In reply, England lost Zak Crawley early and failed to build any significant partnerships through the innings. They were eventually bowled out for 252 and could not complete their full quota of 50 overs. England will be hoping for an improved performance in the next game, particularly with a clearer plan to handle Sri Lanka’s spin attack.
Kusal Mendis, coming off a fine 93-run knock in the opening game, is the top choice for the captaincy role. Joe Root, who also contributed with a half-century in the first match and brings vast experience in this format, stands out as the leading option for the vice-captaincy role.
