The football town is abuzz with talk of Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old Spanish footballer’s stunning goal during the Euro Cup 2024 semifinal match between Spain and France is being widely applauded. His stellar performance overshadows his tender age, as he has successfully challenged defenders who are almost twice his senior.
The Spanish forward, played a key role in Spain’s 2-1 victory over France in the Euro 2024 semifinals. He scored the equalizer, bringing them back into the game after France took an early lead through Randal Kolo Muani’s goal in the ninth minute.
This equalizing goal made Yamal the youngest goal scorer in Euro championship history. He turns 17 right before the Euro 2024 finals, where Spain will face England, who defeated the Netherlands in the other semifinal match.
Lamine Yamal’s Career
This record isn’t the first one Yamal has broken. He is also the youngest player (16) to ever participate in the Euros. His career began when he started in Spain’s opening match against Croatia, which they won by a convincing score of 3-0. Yamal has also made his mark in the Spanish League, becoming both the youngest participant and scorer at the age of 15. He further holds the record for being the youngest player in the Champions League for his club.
“Just a spectator in the last Euros, finalist in the current,”says Yamal. On one hand, he was watching the precious edition of the Euros with his friends in a shopping mall and on the other, he will be representing the country in this season’s finals.

Dani Olmo scored the match winning goal for Spain after the scores were tied at 1-1 against France in the 2024 Euro cup semi-final. But after an early lead it was Lamine Yamal’s goal that bought Spain back into the game. After the game the boss of Spain, Luis de La Fluente had words of praise for this young sensation.
We saw a touch of genius from a footballer who we all need to take care of,” he told reporters afterwards.
I would like him to work with the same humility and keep learning with the same attitude and maturity he shows on the pitch.

Spain will now lock horns against the three Lions England in the final of the 2024 Euro cup on 15th July. It is really going the battle of the two best offensive teams and Spain enter this contest with a better head to head record. They also have a 40% win probability to win the finals.
